And a belated Happy Easter to you too! The fruit cakes being compared to bricks definitely makes my chuckle list…..perhaps some fruity garnish around the display would have added more relevance. It is quite strange how the human mind works, and association is key to avoid possible misyunderstandings like this one! Classic!

I like the idea of a private blog if getting the RSS and reading posts was as simple as public. If there are too many hoops just to get notice of and read a single post it will get frustrating.

Im trying to find out some information about my Uncle who served in the 10th armored division in ww2. His name was Douglas Holmes. I found a pfc with the last name Holmes listed under one of the pics of the 419th C battallion. Im not sure if it is him because the picture is very small. If anyone has any information about him it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Oliver Holmes

My fatherinlaw Robert Bob Johnson Sgt 419th Battery A 10th Armored - as I see with some other postings = I have photo's with some names on a few of them. I did attempt to talk to him about his time in the USA and he would not talk about it. I do know that it did affect him and he was haunted by his experience.

I just ran across this website. My father, Kermit S. Watkins, was a member of the 419th FA Battalion during WWII, served during the Battle of the Bulge, and was transported back to the States at the end of the war on the aircraft carrier Hornet. As of this writing, he and his wife of 63 years, Sally, are alive and well in Southern California. I am the second oldest of their ten children. I recall that my father attended some of the 419th reunions and although he talked sparingly about the war, on the occasions when I've looked with him at the still photos and the video he managed to take during his service overseas, he has spoken very fondly of the other young men he served with. I take my hat off to U.S. servicemen everywhere but save my warmest gratitude for those who served during the precarious years of WWII.
